  1. I feel a power unlike most people in her. I love when I heard that she gave a plus 2 and a smiley face I found that touching and unique. She just has a positive aura that I just love and I would personally love to say hello and tell her what a wonderfull person she is.

Over the years Rita Pierson shares personal experience about education and teaching. Teachers have to be open minded about the way they approach their students, and that is by building a relationship with them. The mindset of a child when it comes to education is very fragile. Becoming open to such can turn into an uplifting experience for a child and can change their whole outlook upon education and relationships. Nearly every student has been touched by a teacher at some point in their lives; whether it was having eternal support or the teacher pushing their students to succeed within everything they do. Nothing is ever impossible when you have a relationship that could never disappear.

Growing up each individual becomes adapted to their own norms. Within every situation opinions are differentiated. At times it becomes hard to find a median between the two. One important factor is having respect and knowing where the boundaries are. Finding a strategy that seems unfamiliar to a particular person doesn’t always mean it’s a bad thing. For instance, it’s the not knowing that will become beneficial.

  4. Teachers like Rita Pierson give me hope in education. She is funny and never turns her back on her students. She has amazing bonds with her students and she hopes that she can change other teachers and students point of views. I like how she put the +2 instead of putting -18 on the paper. Seeing on how bad you do discourages students.

  5. Rita Pierson has a different outlook on conflict and student teacher resolution. She sees things differently; when a problem arises she takes a step back to analyze her surroundings and infers from the situation before implementing her own sense of comfort and disciplinary style. When you listen to Rita Pierson talking about her students and the connections made between the two, you really understand how teachers and their actions can affect students more than the teachers realize. Mrs. Pierson has shown how understanding before being understand can change the perspective of the conflict. #Shellshocked

It was about a lady talking about building relationships with students , taking a different approach to things. She spoke about how having an educational career runs in the family. Her mom took a diff approach , and at her funeral she saw all her former students , the ones who were homeless, hungry, and couldn’t focus..they had become successful.

  8. “But one of the things we never discuss is, or we rarely discuss is, the importance of human connection”. This is probably one of the most factual statements that has ever been said by anyone. The fact that this woman, Rita Pearson, believes so highly of the importance of education and the importance of communication is unbelievable. Her speech describes that there is no reason to give up. That you should give education a chance and that you should try harder to communicate with others in order to do better in life. When she said that an educator she worked with stated “I don’t get paid to like the students. I get paid to teach them and they learn it” actually proves that this is a HUGE reason why kids aren’t encouraged enough to go to school and get the education they need. In all honesty, if more teachers were like the ones here at MTI, more people would be motivated to come to school and get things done the right way!

Rita shares her personal encounters she has faced while teaching, as well as stories others have told her. Communication between a student and a teacher is inevitable and extremely important. In Pierson’s lecture she says, “Kids don’t learn from people they don’t like.” From my personal experience, it’s more likely for me to listen to a teacher I like, other than one I’m not too fond of. EVERY student has made a genuine connection with at least one of their teachers, and vice versa. The connection could simply be as an academic mentor or it could be even more personal.

“One of the things we never discuss or we rarely discuss is the value and importance of human connection and relationships.” – Rita Pierson

    #2, My Mama Said:

Growing up involves change. Change that is both physical and emotional. Change also comes to your surroundings, in which you have no other choice but to adapt to it. Mothers are usually the ones to shape you for reality. They make up rules to live by; rules of life and how to protect yourself. However, they vaguely inform you on the rules and principles of the outside world given by another persons’ perspective. As a child it’s hard to adjust and you find yourself stuck in between the two; your mother and everyone else. Parents teach their child from their own personal experience. As a child enters into a bigger habitat, where the principles are different as well as the consequences, they’re usually confused and not very open-minded. The unknown or the difference of something is NOT necessarily a bad thing. You learn something new everyday, education never stops!

  11. Ms. Pierson had some great points in her speech. What I liked most when she described how if a student does not get along with the teacher, the student will not learn. This is very true because if the student does not like the teacher then that student will not have any motivation to do well in class. Teachers like Ms. Pierson is a perfect example of what every student wants. #RACECAR🚗💨

  12. In these videos Rita Pierson talks about how she has seen many different aspects of education reform, some good, some bad. She goes on to explain how it is important to build relationships with students. She also talks about how she gives positive reinforcement to the kids in her class. An example of this would be when a student took a twenty question test and he only got two correct, but instead of writing a negative eighteen she wrote a positive two.

  13. Rita Pierson’s outlook on education is unlike most others. unlike a large majority of public school teachers Rita believes that teaching isn’t just always a straight forward approach . It takes a simple understanding of how to speak to a student like they are somebody. She treats her students like a champions, instead of using demotvational terms she uses a positive approach. Instead of a minus eighteen, she uses a plus two. It feels a lot better to be told you did something right instead of being told you did a lot wrong. Rita’s philosophy on teaching encourages the success of all, even a student who is at their lowest can be brought to the top .

  14. Every student has had a teacher in their years of schooling like this women. And if you asked a student who their favorite teacher was in the past they would say the teacher that is like Rita Pierson. If all teachers had the common sense and thought process of this teacher, students would stop looking at school as something they have to do, but rather something they want to do. Rita was right on money when she started talking about teachers building relationships with their students. All of the teachers that have made an impact in my life and built a relationship with me will be the teachers that i will never forget and thank, because if it wasn’t for teachers like them I could have ended up a drop out and have no ambition to continue schooling. Public schools need more teachers like Rita Pierson.

  20. After listening to Rita Pierson it made me stop to think about the major difference between teachers. The most decated teachers have been the ones who’s class that everyone would talk about between classes. The teachers that really try to create a bond with their students and not just teach for the money. But for the the reason thats what they have choosen to become, to help students learn and succed. A lot like my mother she has the same decation that Rita Pierson has, to be there and make a difference through teaching.

  21. We feel that this video is motivation for teachers as well as students to put MORE effort into learning. Students need a kind and caring teacher in order to learn. ” Giving a plus two is a lot better than minus 20″ Teachers should want there students to get better and the student cant progress unless that teacher is Uplifting.

Rita explained that yes we all have ‘laws’ we follow at all times, but there are certain places that these laws just aren’t set in stone. There is different laws for every place we go to, for instance you wouldn’t go to a library and be loud and scream because those aren’t the laws of the library, you’re expected to be calm and quite. We feel Rita used a very good example towards the students whom had the altercation. She explains to them that certain rules are to be followed, and if you break these rules there are consequences you will have to deal with. Also, while Rita was explaining to the parent(s) the situation she approached the subject very understanding, which got things solved the correct way.

As a group we discuss that teachers should connect to their students instead of ignoring them. And that they should have a “human connection”. Because a student can’t learn from someone they don’t like. That’s why there are some students that drop out of school. Yes! There will be some students that will disturbed teachers and students. Teachers have the responsabliity to have their students to pass in their classes, in that case teachers will have to have a plane so that their students will work with them to be better students.

Rita Pierson discusses the importance for a child to have connections at school with teacher in order for the child to learn. No teacher should ever show that they don’t like a student because it will only make the situation words because its promoting there behavior. A teachers main priority is to have the student pass the class no matter what. they should connect with the students and maybe even teach a different way so that the student learns because not every student learns the same way.

  26. Rita Pierson talks about the importance of connecting to students to help them learn. She talks about how showing a student that you care about them can help them in school. She also brings up how a teacher doesn’t have to like her students but should pretend to like them.otherwise the students will began to hate the class and never learn. A teachers job is to get there students to pass the class and they should do everything in there power to do it. If they connect with there students it will only make there job easier.

  27. Rita Pierson thinks that teacher should build a relationship with their students so they could communicate with each other better. She says that teachers should find new techniques to teach and motivate their students so they can bring the best out of themselves. To encourage them and to guide them in the right direction. I think that she is completely right because from experience I’ve notice that some students and teachers dont really get along, and those students are usaully the ones who have bad grades. #GOLDS

-Rita talks about when it is necessary to fight or if it is necessary at all. She makes the argument what if it’s not okay to fight in school, then would be okay to fight at your mom’s work. She talks to the students about being better and not fighting.
