Mandatory Minimum

  1. Mandatory minimum should be applied to cases that deserve it. If this man had the evidence to prove his and his family’s well being were in danger than under the 2nd amendment he had the right to bear arms to protect himself. The teen was asked to leave the mans house, he didn’t. The property owner had the right to do whatever he needed to secure his place of residence. Mandatory minimum in this case was absolutely ridiculous.

Fifty-nine year old Lee Willard was charged with shooting into a building with a firearm, aggregated assault, and child endangerment. It all started when 16 year old daughter (Sarah) got a 17 year old boyfriend with no place to stay. Willard and family took him in. Sarah’s boyfriend was being disobedient and was asked to leave the house multiple times. On May 14th, 2008 came cries for help! Sarah’s boyfriend punched the wall, a warning shot was fired at the wall from Willard, then came a threat to shoot Sarah’s boyfriend if he doesn’t get out the house. Willard was sentenced to 20 years in the Florida State Prision.

Mandatory Minimum should be applied to cases that deserve it. In this case, Lee Willard DID NOT deserve to be sentenced to 20 years in Prision. I feel that he was trying to only protect his family from a dangerous teenager. Sarah’s boyfriend punched a hole into the wall which caused her to scream and feel as if she was endangered. Willard did the right thing, Willard doesn’t deserve to serve 20 years in Prison.

  4. Mandatory Minimum should only be for the people who really deserve it. Lee Willard was charged for something absurd, for protecting his daughter. If the guy punches a whole in the wall then I don’t think he was in the wrong. Willard did not deserve the 20 years, seems how he did not shoot the kid, he shot the wall.

  5. Lee Willard was charged for shooting into a building, aggregated assault, and child endangerment and sentenced for 20 years. Willard allowed a 17 year old boy, who was dating his 16 year old daughter stay with them since he had no where to go, the boy would disappear with her for days, then once they returned, the boyfriend came back with attitude and punched a hole into the wall and called ruckus. Then to protect his daughter, he shot at the wall, and the kid went and told the cops and that’s when he was charged.
